[00:00] Hey, beautiful people. It is so good to be with you. But, oh, my goodness, it is hot, isn’t it? Are you hot? Well, I mean, I know you’re hot, but how you feeling? Is it getting to you? Is it making you more stressed out? Let’s cool off together. I mean, I know you’re cool, but let’s do a cooling breath and meditation today. That’s what I have in store for you. So relax and settle in and listen up because your stress therapy session is about to begin to right now.

[00:42] Hey, beautiful people. It’s time for some stress therapy. A podcast about how to meditate and get better at stress for people living.

[00:49] In the real world.

[00:50] Finally, a place to park my 25 plus years of experience of working as a psychotherapist in the mental health field. And now, your host, me, the stress therapist, Sheri Flake.

[01:14] Hey, beautiful people. Okay, so there has been a lot going on, and I know you’ve been listening to old episodes, but come on, some of my old episodes are super good. Right? Today, we’re just going to cool off. We’re going to get cool. I mean, I know you’re already super cool and amazing and awesome, but it can be really hot out there. And when you’re super duper hot, you can get super duper stressed. So let’s do a cooling breath together. Okay, here we go.

[01:40] Okay, before we get into the thick.

[01:41] Of it, we’re gonna take a teensy, tiny break.

[01:44] Be right back.

[01:45] Hey, beautiful people. Okay, it’s hot. It’s super duper hot. Like it’s hot everywhere, right? I’m in Atlanta, and it’s super hot, by the way. Nobody calls it hot, Lana. I mean, not anybody who lives here actually calls it that. Nobody calls it that. But the nickname has a lot of merit because it is so, so hot here. It’s like walking into one of those wet steam saunas every time you walk outside. I mean, it is super hot and humid, and it’s getting hotter. Well, I won’t get into the political conversation around that. I can’t believe it’s a political conversation, because the facts are it’s getting hotter, right? And so no matter where you are, you’re probably hot. And if you’re watching this show, I know you’re hot. You know what I’m saying? We’re all super hot, and we’re getting much, much hotter. So the bottom line is, how do we cool off? Because if you’re super duper hot, I don’t know about you, I’m Pitta. We can get into doshas, ayurveda stuff. I love that stuff for a different episode. But I am Pitta, which is a dosha, which is a body type that tends to run a little hot. Also, you know, no one’s talking about this. I don’t know why it’s such a big secret. But menopause, okay, is real and it makes you even hotter. Okay? So there’s a lot of hotness going on. I mean, we just keep getting hotter and hotter. You know what I’m saying? And it’s relevant when we talk about stress because when we are hot, we are cranky. And I mean, you can just ask my husband if he needs some proof about that, okay? He likes to cool things off before he even talks me. Like he’ll turn the air conditioning on. I see it. I see it. You can hang meat at my house at night. Okay. I like it to be really cold. But I grew up in the midwest, so even though I’ve been here for 100 years or 26 years or 27 years or 28 years, I’ve probably been here longer than I lived up north. I grew up in Ohio, Michigan, Iowa and Illinois. So I’m pretty corn fed midwestern girl, right? And it’s taken a while to get used to this heat, but there are some really cool breaths and some really cool meditations that are made to cool you off, okay? In meditation and in yoga. And so we’re gonna do those today. Now, I have tried this one breath. It’s called satali breath. And I’ve tried it over and over and over again to cool myself off. And I’ve always been like, I don’t know if it worked. I don’t know if it worked. And last night I was in this really amazing yoga class. Oh my goodness. If you live in Atlanta, check out Kashi Monday night 730 with candika. She does a deep unwind every Monday night. Lovely. Me and my husband went last night. I’m trying to make it every Monday because she is so smart, she’s so wonderful. And there was a little piece missing to my Citali breath. And I think why? It wasn’t really cooling me off. And last night, for the first time, after trying it for years and years and years, I felt completely cool and it worked excellent. And I’m so excited to do it with you today. Okay, so cooling off, we’re going to try a satali breath.

[04:48] Okay.

[04:49] So here’s how you do. First, it doesn’t require you to roll your tongue because I get that that’s a genetic thing. Some people can do it, some people can’t. If you can do it, that’s your speed. That’s what you’re going to be doing. So if you can, roll your tongue. Awesome. If you can’t, just stick your tongue out. Okay, let’s do this together a few times, shall we?

[05:08] Okay.

[05:09] Close your eyes and just notice your beautiful breath.

[05:13] However it is.

[05:16] Deep, shallow, long, short. Just noticing it, however, your breath is in this moment. Now, go ahead, roll your tongue, stick it. Breathing in. Close your mouth and breathe out of your nose.

[05:59] Again.

[06:06] Going at your own pace. Now, while you’re doing this, breathe. Just lend an ear and in your mind’s eye, while you’re breathing in.

[06:35] Cooling.

[06:36] Breath and breathing out. I want you to imagine the most beautiful night and that the the moon is so bright, it looks like a flashlight in the sky. And that it’s absolutely stunning. All the blues and dark blues and ultraviolets and whites and all the colors. Maybe your moon is over the water. It’s looking so lovely. See this beautiful moonlit sky. Breathing in, breathing out. Continue with this breath at your own pace and I’ll guide you out. Begin to allow your breath to find its natural rhythm again. Just noticing it, however it is, it’s just right. And when you’re ready, you can flutter your eyelids a bit and open your beautiful eyes.

[09:37] Okay, so I hope you’re feeling cooled off. I know you’re feeling cool because you are cool. So I’ll see you next time. Until then, have a lovely, lovely day.
